Q. 01. Define PHC. Write down the component & principles of PHC?
Primary health care (PHC) :- Essential health care based on practical, Scientifically sound & socially acceptable methods & technology made universally accessible to individuals and families in the community through their full participation and at a cost that the community and the country can afford to maintain at every stage of their development in the spirit of self- determination.
Components or elements of primary health care (PHC)
1. Education and information about prevailing health problems and methods of preventing and controlling them.
2. Promotion of food supply & proper nutrition.
3. An adequate supply of safe water and basic sanitation.
4. Maternal and child health care including family planning . 0
5. Immunization against infectious disease.
6. Prevention and control of endemic disease.
7. Appropriate treatment of common disease & injuries.
8. Provision of essential drugs.
Principles of primary health care (PHC) :-
1. Equitable distribution of health services :- This means that health services must be shared by all people irrespective of their ability to pay and all people must have access to health services.
2. Community participation (Active involvement of individuals, families and communities in promotion of their own health).
3. Multisectoral approach (Coordinate action between health sector and other related sectors).
4. Appropriate technology should be used.
