Immunity :- Immunity is defined as the ability of the body to recognize, destroy and eliminate the antigenic material foreign to its own. It is normally a defensive mechanism of the body.
Classification of Immunity:-
A. Innate or Non-Specific
1. Genetic or Constitutional:
(i) Species (ii) Racial (iii) Individual. (iv) Immunity related to age.
2. Mechanical.
3. Humoral
4. Cellular.
B. Acquired or Specific :-
1. Active
(a) Natural (i) After attack of disease. (ii) After repeated sub clinical infection.
(b) Artificial (i) Live attenuated vaccine. (ii) Killed vaccine (iii) Toxoid vaccine (iv) Combined vaccine
2. Passive
(a) Natural :- Transfer of maternal antibody.
(i) Via placenta to off springs (ii) Via Colostrums to body.
(b) Artificial :- By administration of
(i) Antisera or antitoxins. (ii) Human immunoglobulin. (iii) Normal human lg. (iv) Specific human lg.
