Q. 13. Define and classily viral hepatitis. Write down the prevention of hepatitis- B ?
 Hepatitis :- Hepatitis is inflammation of the liver which results in damage to hepatocytes with subsequent cell death.
 Viral hepatitis :- Viral hepatitis may be defined as infection of the liver caused by one or other of the specific hepatitis viruses, namely hepatitis A virus hepatitis B virus hepatitis C virus hepatitis D virus, hepatitis E virus and hepatitis F (non-A, Non-B & Non-C) Virus.
 Classification of viral hepatitis :-
1. Hepatitis A
2. Hepatitis B
3. Hepatitis C
4. Hepatitis D
5. Hepatitis E
6. Hepatitis G
 Prevention of Hepatitis- B :-
1. Active immunization is done by hepatitis B Vaccine containing HBS Ag.
2. Passive immunization is done by the intramasculer injection of hyper immune serum globulin (HBIG). Containing anti-HBS.
3. Passive active immunization is the simultaneous administration of HBIG and hepatitis B vaccine.
4. Specific preventive measures :-
(i) Avoiding risk factors, such as shared needles, syringes, and razors, multiple male homosexual partners and prostitutes.
(ii) Standard safety precautions in laboratories and hospitals must be enforced strict by to avoid contaminated blood and blood products, contact with infected body fluids and accidental needle punctures. For this
- All persons donating blood should be investigated for the presence of hepatitis B virus.
- Strict measure should be taken in sterilization procedure of blood bank.
- Needle, syringe, lancet etc should be properly sterilized before  use
