Q. 25. Write down the clinical feature, treatment & complication of chicken pox ?
Clinical features of chicken pox :-
A. Prodromal symptoms : Brief and mild-
1. Fever
2. Malaise
3. Watery rose
4. Redness of eye.
5. Backache
6. Anorexia
B. First sign :- Appearance of a characteristics rash in crops on the trunk on 2nd day of illness.
- The rash spreads to the head and extremities
- The rash will be found in different stages-
macules papules vesicles pustular crusts
C. Itching is marked.
Treatment : No specific treatment, only symptomatic treatment is given.
1. Isolation of the patient
2. Acyclovir 10 mg./kg 8 hourly intravenous by orally in adults and addescents)-for immuno compromised patients.
3. Local antiseptic (chlorhexidine)- if secondary infection.
4. Flucloxacillin 500mg 6 hourly should be prescribe
If the bacterial infection progress.
5. Antihistamine- for itching.
Complication :-
A. Viral effects :-
1. Pneumonia
2. Myocarditis
3. Encephalitis
4. Glomerulonephritis
5. Optic neuritis.
B. Secondary bacterial infection :-
1. Skin infection
2. Septicaemia
3. Osteomyelitis/ septic arthritis
C. Intra-uterine infection
1. Congenital limb defects
